Diurne
Marcel Zelmanovitch
and Yolande de la Villdguerin trained respectively as an architect and
painter. After discovering the world of Tibetan rugs they
decided to open a showroom together in the heart of Paris' Latin
Quarter. They realized however that the project would be
viable only if they were directly involved in the rug making
process. So they did just that.
With a Nepalese
partner, they built a workshop to a size and with an organization that
promotes unique designer rugs, both in terms of superior quality and
diversity. Diurne rugs are made with traditional
craftsmanship. All the rugs are fully custom made; exact
images are generated by computer in Paris, providing a true-to-life
simulation of the rugs which is then carefully woven in the workshop in
Katmandu. This process gives the designer a unique
opportunity to custom color and custom size any Diurne rug.
